When Florida police officer Michael Verdugo appeared on HGTV’s Design Star in 2008, he had no idea that footage from a hardcore bondage film he made in 1996 (using the name Jeremy Wess) would surface. Unfortunately, screenshots and footage from the fetish movie ‘Rope Rituals‘ surfaced showing him tied up, kissing, and being masterbated by porn star Chris Mackenzie.

As a result of this information coming to light, Verdugo, who is publicly out at work and in private, was not invited to the Design Star reunion show and was placed on administrative leave with pay by his law enforcement employer. In January 2009, the Hollywood, Florida police department fired him for not disclosing on his police application that he had made the porn film. An arbitrator recently upheld the termination.

Now, Verdugo is fighting back and has filed a civil lawsuit against Hollywood Police for wrongful termination and discrimination. The Hollywood police department maintains that Verdugo was not fired for his sexuality, but because he did not disclose his porn past when he applied for the department.

Verdugo believes his sexual orientation had plenty to do with his firing, that if a male cop appeared nude in a straight porn film his police buddies would be “high-fiving him in the hallway.”
